Jon Payne - The Tower

As I fell from the tower
I could feel the cool breeze
Of the wind grip me
In disappointment.

Colors of the land and sky
Began to fade as the chill
From my flight clouded
My vision.

The stairway that lined
The tower seemed older than
The land which was born
Long before it.

When I hit the bottom I felt
My dreams and my spine shatter.
Then I crawled off to the place
Where I belong.
