I dreamt that I was looking out
On my trail, just peering about
At once I saw two heads in a hollow
Peering back at my curious gaze

Two lads I thought I knew quite well
Mesmerized by this winters spell
But noticing me as I to them
We stared in awe at each other

One was a charming and daring soul
Calling out to me in the wintery cold
The other, timid, worried, but safe
All black and lovely of frame and face

I dreamt this dream through many years
So many I'd watched come and grow
Each had sat in that window and stared
As I laughed and waved with joy and care

Generations passed as each one came
Loved me much as I the same
And sadly I wept as each one left
But remembered to think of their happy past

Three more grace my window these days
And give me treasure that cannot be weighed
In dollars or gems, but only in LOVE
The one thing more solid than diamonds or gold

And my dream continues as I look from my woods
At these two that sit where others have stood
And wish, as all great adventurers do
To break the bounds of lifes rigid rules

And fly to the stars, free of sorrow and pain
Exchange awe with the daily mundane
And the rigamarole of life day by day
Staring out at the woods, wishing only that chance
