John W. McEwers - Slip and Slide

I'm about to walk outside
and greet the day like it's my best friend,
because, lady bear, this is the day
that I got over you.

Go do what you do, cause it's just rain on the windshield, babe,
and this gravy train is going someplace else
where the weather is clear and you're just a name
that I saw in the phonebook
and decided not to call anymore.

It's going to be a day at the waterpark,
with big old slides, and a bunch of kids that aren't mine
and I don't have to pay for,
and yet, I actually get to interact with
if I want to
and their parents are okay with it.

I've managed to cut out the cancer
that I've been fighting for years,
and now I hardly even think about you
except on anniversaries and birthdays,
and even then, it's just air in the pipes,
making a little extra noise in the rafters,
but not actually getting to me at all.

It's all uphill from here,
and I can move on to that girl
I met who isn't like you,
except for hair color -
- and I think her first name also has an 'a' in it,
but that's hardly anything.

So later, gator. Have fun polluting someone else's mind,
cause my mind is mine, and my money is staying where it is
except when I pay for stuff.
