Description

You were in another room with me
Many times – and years ago, it seems.
Terror ran through our encounters like rain,
Clouds preceding each interaction, like:
You in a yellow raincoat, on the front
Steps of the Milhiser House or maybe
It was Blanton but in tears just the same –
Convinced the world had died, that your
Soul was in doubt and every approaching
Storm meant one less reason
For you to exist, for you to be
In love with yourself, your voice, your own
Vastness. I wanted to hide, too, to shout
And push away but instead I
Wrapped your wet raincoat, your shaking skin,
Inside of me for as long as we both
Could bear it which was four more years.
