You never ever told me dad
That I was ever any good,
Although I tried so very hard
I might as well be made of wood,
For all the good it ever did.

I tried so hard to be
The perfect human being,
It did no good you see
Cause you just couldn't see me,
The child that cried inside
I sang and danced and wanted you to love me,
But it seems if you wanted me to go away and hide
A pat, a smile, a kiss, a hug,
I didn't ask for too much
So where was I to turn and get the care,
The love, the touch
I didn't get it from you,
You are not perfect and you were hardly any fun
Do you know what you've done to me,
That now can't be undone?

For all I ever wanted,
Was a dad that just loved me
Regardless of the things I did.

Who'd love me, set me free
Who'd set me free, to love and so,
In turn I'd love my own
How hard it is to do just that.

When the seeds have been sown
It's sad that you don't know me,
It's sad that I don't know you
The approval you with held from me,
Has claimed the lives of two.
