Evening- and I, in the hour before sleep,
Lean out once more, and stare
Skyward, at you, bright star, deep, deep
Down some black well of darkness sunken there,
Some bottomless pit in heaven's towering steep:
Sorrowful revelation, secret laid bare
In the dark hour before sleep,
Secret too dark to share-
Forgotten, with the approach of sleep.
