His parents are friends of professional players Tony O'Shea, Gary Robson and Darryl Fitton, who used to stay with them when playing in tournaments in the Netherlands. At the age of 18, Hendriks already had his own darts range with sponsor Target, who contribute a percentage of all sales of his darts range to helping establish him on the professional circuit.
