I’m on the floor kissing your feet
Begging you, please baby, please
I can’t bring myself to stare
Into your unforgiving eyes
I take a chance and glance up
I see the cold metal in your hand
My blood runs cold, I freeze
Darkness surrounds me
Cold concrete hugs my knees
Dust kisses my skin softly
Betrayal hangs in the air
I’m sobbing uncontrollably now
Red rimmed eyes pleading with you
I’m dangling above the icy waters of death
And below the dusky skies of life
I’m starved of air, you’re choking me
Gasping I hit the concrete hard
Please I croak, let me live
What have I ever done to you?
My hair is like an unraveled sweater
My skin smeared with dirt and tears
Please…
You shove the barrel in my face
I crawl backwards trying to inch away
NO!
The sheer force of your voice stops me
I look at your eyes, tormented lovely eyes
I try to reason with you
You don’t want to do it, I know you don’t
SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP!
You scream, blocking me out
My mouth closes slowly like a creaky door
GO! you wave the gun wildly in the direction
Of escape but I can’t move, I’m frozen
You grab my arm and forcibly jerk me there
I scream as you turn the gun on yourself
I want to stop you but my feet have grown roots
All I can do is watch as you pull the trigger
But you don’t…
We’re statues, frozen like this for what seems like forever
Time stops it seems until the authorities get here
They barge in holding weapons near
I’m alive, I whisper
You stare at your empty hand, confused
And I realize to them it’s just another life saved
But to us, it was a thin line never to be crossed
