“Why does God hate me? ”
He said often today
As each phone call
Brought another bag
Of words to eat
I couldn’t help
But to listen with
Fascination
How much shit can he eat?
Is he choking?
He gulped it down
All day long
With silence
And valor and discipline
He ate all that
Shit
And you wouldn’t know
By looking at him
But he can eat more
Shit
Than anyone I’ve seen.
