Jeff Fleischer - Custer's Mother

I was reading a book by candlelight,
And it was getting close to midnight
When a messenger knocked on my front door
In the middle of a downpour.
He handed me a letter, and rode away on his horse.
A letter, which I opened with quite a bit of force.
The news from the army shook me to the core,
As I collasped and fell to the floor.
George and his men were met at the Little Bighorn by the Indians' surprise attack.
Not one soldier made it back.
George had instantly died
After an arrowhead had pierced him in the side.
All I had left were memories of George as a little boy
Riding on a pony, which he had named Roy.
