Japan scrambles to cope after quake

A day after an earthquake triggered a devastating tsunami in Japan, an explosion at a nuclear plant raised fears that bad could turn into worse.

Officials warn of a possible meltdown in a quake-hit reactor and authorities are concerned about radiation leakage.

More than 1,000 people are feared killed, and helicopters skim over the swathes of flattened land, searching for survivors.
