some piece of this summer story
reminded me so regretfully
of a happier chapter
when I thought more creatively

and how I felt was more important
how I looked was less important
I was only trying to impress you
now I have to impress everyone

I abandoned all means
of cheering myself up
in exchange for
dressing myself up

what class, what style
new dress, fake smile
now I know how to do the walk
I've mastered the art of small talk

my friends look at me and say
good for her, she's found her way
everyone prefers my disguise
instead of the ugly girl it hides

from t-shirts and jeans to pretty and chic
these new shoes are so last week
but it looks like I'm in luck
designer flats,300 bucks

I look good, but how do I feel?
can I be beautiful and still be real?
they think it's better when I wear the best
it doesn't matter, I'll still be depressed

it won't change a single thing anyway
because I've noticed from day to day
regardless of what I try to be
no one ever ends up loving me.
