Description

At twenty-seven years of age
I should be past this phase
Using a razor to dull my rage
But the cuts remind me that I am human.

I know my actions are wrong
A man is supposed to be strong
But I feel like I don't belong
And the cuts remind me that I am human.

The rush that I get from the pain
Belittles a pathetic life of vain
As I watch pints of blood drain
Because the cuts remind me that I am human.

Hiding my scars away
Obsessed with a teenage cliche
Fresh marks made everyday
Still, the cuts remind me that I am human.

Respected in my career
Winner of 'Father of the Year'
Repressed pain that makes me tear
Needing new cuts to remind me that I am human.

Keeping this secret even from my wife
Probably for the remainder of my life
My other romantic partner is this knife
Because it reminds me that I am human.
