ivor .e hogg - Why?

When restful sleep’s denied to me
in the dark watches of the night.
I contemplate the infinite
celestial machinery,
responsible for day and night.
I think it is quite apposite to think about eternity.

When time has slowed down to a crawl
and seconds pass reluctantly
at times don’t seem to move at all.
I toss and turn restlessly.
Why is it when it’s time to rise
I’m fast asleep behind closed eyes.
