night falls quietly.
my lantern sheds a soft light.
I can see to read.

hours pass unnoticed.
time has no meaning for me
I recall my youth

my past history
of consequence to no one
a fleeting shadow

which leaves little trace
except perhaps some family traits
carried in the blood.

unseen legacy
inherited randomly
by those yet unborn.

some small part of me.
will live in the future.
immortality.
