It is my turn the time has come.
I hesitate I’d rather flee
A pretty girl bids me welcome
and turns her radiant smile on me.

I sit down in the dreaded chair.
He tilts it back so he can see.
I am afraid, he does not care
but chatters to me pleasantly.

I cringe my mouth is open wide
He checks my teeth efficiently
He shines his little torch inside
and then declares professionally.

There’s nothing there which needs my care
you keep your teeth in good repair
The gentle art of dentistry
I have to say terrifies me.

I wall away light heartedly.
I only came reluctantly
I have to state most definitely.
I can’t help being cowardly.
