Today's program centers on American sculptor and university art professor Howard Taikeff, who moved to Quito 20 years ago from New York City. He studied art at the University of California in Santa Cruz, and at the New York Academy of Art. He has always worked in a relatively free style, trying not to limit himself. While still in the US, he began doing sculptures of prostitutes and homeless drug addicts. He felt drawn by the underbelly of society. In Quito, he is drawn to sculpting the local people, whom he sees with different eyes than they see themselves.
