Inherent Vice, the latest from Paul Thomas Anderson, opens in limited release December 12th, and is already in the awards conversation. Here’s what we thought.

Joaquin Phoenix stars in this adaptation of a Thomas Pynchon novel, along with Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, and Reese Witherspoon. But it’s the director, Paul Thomas Anderson (of Boogie Nights, Magnolia, There Will Be Blood, and The Master) that is at the center of a lot of the awards chatter.
