Infant Autism Test

Dr. David Samadi, leading prostate cancer surgeon, shares a new study that suggests the infant pull-to-sit test could help detect autism in babies as young as six months. The study group was very small, says Dr. Samadi, but researchers believe that head lag during this test could be an early warning sign of autism. Currently, one out of 88 kids are diagnosed with autism, usually around age 4. Dr. Samadi is careful to point out that this test is only likely to be accurate in infants in high-risk groups such as those with a genetic predisposition or a sibling with autism. Head lag in infants not in a high-risk group could be attributed to something else. While motor problems are not directly linked to autism, this test could be an indicator.
