India's rape malady

NewsX@9 is a NewsX special show which debates the main news event of the day. Even as India's Parliament contemplates the anti-rape law, alarming news of rapes continue to pour in from across India. In the last 24 hours itself, 6 cases of rapes have been reported from Rohini in Delhi, Shahjahanpur in UP, Sheopur and Jaspur in M.P, Nagpur in Maharashtra and from Kota in Rajasthan. These numbers do not account for the swathes of women who are too hesitant to report their misery to anyone. The question we are asking today is- Has new law against rape failed to prevent crime against women? What can be done to make women safe in India? Do crimes against women reflect a feudal society vision? Will new India learn to respect women? We debate this on the show and try to evolve consensus among our panelists over the issue.
