In and Around Antalya, Turkey

I visited the region around Antalya, Turkey, alone in December, 2010. I used Carnet d'Evasion and Thistle Travel as tour guides, and I cannot recommend them, as they are bullies, incompetents, and extortionists.

Turkey does not wish to join the EU, from what I gathered. They are an independent Repulbic. No USD are accepted here, only lire and euros.

We were mostly by the sea around Antalya, but did go far inland, to Paukkale, an astonishing place. We went through regions were many spaghetti westerns were filmed, and I can see why!

I love Turkish pop music, as well as the trad music! The red tea and the real coffee are great, but you won't find them in the hotels much. Get outside a bit, walk to the towns and villages, and try the real deal for yourself! Prices are reasonable, albeit variable. You can bargain a little, or say no. The women are lovely and graceful, and the men tend to be stocky and bullies, but this is a huge country, and the people vary tremendously. I was in Ege, Western Turkey, and mostly around the Mediterranean, which had freak snowstorms this year.
