Description

Home Affairs has published a draft of its new official identity management policy. It is open for public comment until 28 February. The department is aiming to introduce a National Identity System in order to guard against identity theft and to digitise identity management. Gender activists are happy the new system takes into account the wishes of transgender, non-binary and intersex people in allocating identity numbers. Sibusiso Kheswa, from a human rights group called Iranti, speaks more on this. Courtesy #DStv403
