Description

Bolivia has completed the presentation of its case before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, in which it argues that Chile must give it sovereign access to the sea. Chile is now backtracking from previous commitments and insists that Bolivia respect a 1904 treaty that denies the landlocked country access to the Pacific Ocean. Some experts believe that the ICJ may accept the case but might not rule against Chile, whose legal team complains that Bolivia’s arguments are “confusing.” President Evo Morales expressed confidence in the “devastating defense” raised by his country’s delegation in response to Chile’s denial of sovereign sea access for Bolivia. teleSUR
