US emergency teams are preparing for the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season, which officially begins on June 1. Scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will help them prepare by providing an initial outlook for the six-month season at a conference in New York on Thursday. Deadly and destructive, hurricanes can build up energy levels equivalent to 10,000 nuclear bombs during their cycle. VIDEOGRAPHIC
