A health-conscious Chinese senior citizen has developed a novel method of beating the traffic: by propelling himself along with his feet on a handcart.

The clip was filmed in Changchun City in northern Jilin Province on April 2 and according to reports, the man customised the backend of the cart to make it heavier than the front, so he gets moving more quickly.

In the video, the man can be seen travelling along the road by pushing hard with his feet against the road.

People travelling in a nearby car can be heard laughing at the bizarre scene.
