How to Build Collective Impact

The time has come for a multi-sectoral collective impact movement for capacity building. Efforts to strengthen nonprofits or the sector are too often carried out in isolation and under-appreciated by policymakers, donors, and even nonprofits themselves. How can we make the case to stakeholders and engage them in collaborative action to build the sector? This interactive session will draw upon research on the social psychology of persuasion and leadership of advocacy, as well as the innovative efforts of the San Bernardino County Capacity Building Consortium, an alliance of nonprofit networks, funders, and capacity builders promoting investment in a stronger nonprofit sector in that large, under-resourced region of inland Southern California. Participants will map the capacity building ecosystem, brainstorm key messages, and develop strategies they can implement locally to reframe perceptions and drive impact for capacity building.
