Description

India's interest in Antarctica — the only continent with no native population — dates back to 1950. A newly independent nation, India's interventions in matters concerning Antarctica were sidelined, as it was not one among the 12 countries that were part of the Antarctic treaty. This is the story of how India managed to get a seat in the exclusive club in 1980s.

Dr Harsh Gupta, the leader of the third expedition to Antarctica remembers his time on the continent, where his team managed to build India's first research station, Dakshin Gangotri.
