READ ME!!! SO!!! Many people ask me if I know Korean and how I learned. SO..I thought I would do a video on how I'm learning Korean! Now.. because most of my learning takes place in Korea, it's mostly geared towards those who live in Korea, HOWEVER, there are some tips that anyone can take to use to learn Korean.
First thing: I got rosetta stone and used that to learn basic grammar before I came to Korea. But first I learned Korean Hangul online. I cannot find the website that I used to learn hangul.. Its gone.. SORRY!! HOWEVER!!! There are many!!! I also went to a Korean restaurant at least once a week and practiced Korean with the workers there. LOL
Second thing: Use mneumonic devices and word associations. for example the word, 간절하다 means desparately. 간 means liver. 절 means temple.. so I remember it by saying if you are desparate then you will go sacrifice a liver in the temple!! (kind of lame but it works)
Also some words forward means something and backwards means something else. So I have silly things that i say to remember which one is which.
Third: READ EVERYTHING!!! So many things I have learned by just looking around! I am in Korea so I must look around!!! I learned many word parts just by reading and seeing things I was able to figure them out.
Fourth: LEARN SOME WORD PARTS!! Korean is made up of pure Korean words and some words with Chinese origin also. The words from chinese origin have meanings that make it easy to figure out meanings of other words. For example 냉 means cold.. but I didnt know that until I thought about it. 물냉면 is a Korean cold noodle. I know that 면 Means noodle and 물 Means water.. so... 냉 must be the Chinese word for cold!!!! And I was walking in school and I saw on the water fountain it said 냉수... I remembered when I was at a Korean palace the tourguide said the lotus blossom flower was called 수련.. Then I thought to myself... SU MEANS WATER!!! 냉수= COLD WATER!!! many words are just small word parts put together so when you know them you can figure out many words!!!!
FIFTH!! Check all meanings of words! In Korean some words mean many things.. so if you learn a word you can kill many birds with one stone!!!! SOme words means 7 or so THINGS!! 헐!!!!!
SIxth! Focus when people are talking to you!!! SOmetimes I can be overwhelmed when people are speaking Korean to me.. especially if its really fast and im sleepy.. BUT when i stick it out I can understand more that I thought I could! I also learn that way. If I know every word Im hearing execept for one.. then its easy to figure it out by body language and context!!!
I HOPE THIS HELPED YOU!!
