Hope Wallin - Hold On

A heavy sigh escapes me,
My eyes open, I can see.
Nothing's changed between us,
We're the same and always will be.
Holding on to a faint hope,
Burning my hands as they grip that rope.
I want to hang on forever and beyond,
But my soul bleeds unendingly, and I just can't cope.
You say I must hold on, for all that we are.
I can't hold onto something that isn't true to my heart.
What we are isn't what we've been,
And what we want to be is just too far.
We're holding on to a false glimmer,
Of what we were, but love has to simmer,
And we have our reasons for this horrible hope,
It will kill us before it will shimmer.
A heavy sigh escapes me,
My eyes open, I can see.
I give up on this foolish game,
We can never become what you want us to be.
