Honduras: Massive Anti-Corruption Demonstration

Thousands protested in the streets of Tegucigalpa on Friday against the U.S. backed government of Juan Orlando Hernandez. This is the second mass demonstration since local media revealed that US$350 million had been embezzled from the national Social Security Institute, with some of the money going to the ruling National Party for its electoral campaign. Congressional Vice President Lena Gutierrez is the most recent government official summoned to appear before a tribunal for her alleged participation in the scheme, while President Hernandez recently acknowledged receiving checks related to the embezzled money. teleSUR
