Honduras jail unrest

At least 13 people perished when a fight broke out at this jail in Honduras.

Two of the victims died in a fire that erupted during the violence.

Police said the bloodshed was triggered by a dispute between rival gangs armed with guns, knives and machetes at San Pedro Sula jail.

Members of one gang briefly seized control of the complex and held other inmates hostage.

Honduras is under pressure to sort out its prison system.

It was intended to hold up to 7, 000 inmates but now has 13, 000.

More than half have never appeared before a court.

Last month a fire at another Honduran jail killed 360 inmates.
