Homen Thangjam - Unread Lines

Been long since I read your poems
Afraid to be smitten by the lines of reality
And the cringing silence that would wrap me up
Deporting me to a world of enmeshed misery.

Tell me, why conscience speaks
Rouse one from a world of stillness
And enchain by its web of grinding truth
Preventing one to be a comedian of error.

Do you, too, wrangle with scruples
Whisperer of wisdom, killer of the innocence.
Does he instill the will to carry on or the reason to die
Or, does he stop you from being you?

Guess the answer is in the lines of your poems
Shall haunt me like the ghost of memory if I read
And shall shadow my living, maculating my existence.
I shall never read your words of promises.

Shall open the pages of the poems, instead
Allow the words to take wings.
And if ever they conjoin to form notes
Singing ceaselessly tales of our lives
Then I shall know the meaning of the unread lines.
