Homemade Face Masks May Help

Homemade face masks are not as effective as surgical masks or N95 respirators.
But, according to Business Insider, some experts say they're better than nothing when it comes to slowing the spread of the coronavirus.
With health care workers faced with a shortage of medical supplies, like masks and respirators, many people are making masks at home.
Layers and making sure there's a snug seal over the mouth and nose are key to making an effective mask.
Shawn Nasseri, MD, explains, "Masks with a silky outer layer (if possible), middle layer of a thick, tightly woven material like nylon or cotton, and then a comfortable cotton on the inside are ideal."
Avoid making your mask with wool or other fabrics that can irritate your skin.
Many stores, including Joann Fabrics, are offering free, pre-cut materials to people who want to sew their face masks at home.
