Homelands is a once in a lifetime global journey of discovery for a handful of top UK artists - Shakka, Saskilla, Terri Walker and Diztortion - all explore their heritage and culture in this groundbreaking new series.

Episode one of four, exclusively here at GRM, takes MOBO award winner and West London native Shakka back to his homeland of Dominica, unpacking his musical roots and heritage, as well as reconnecting with his family.

The multi-talented musician explores Dominica's bouyon music, the iconic J’Ouvert procession within carnival and the indigenous Kalinago people of the island.

This is a fascinating insight in which we see the humility and assertiveness that has got Shakka right where he is today.
