Hollywood glamour returns to the Oscars

Hollywood's A-listers indulged in their annual fashion parade on the Oscars red carpet.

Stars including Natalie Portman and Jennifer Hudson opted for traditional gowns while Halle Berry and Hilary Swank dazzled in sparkles and feathers.

Pale colours including whites, dull pinks and nudes were big on the red carpet and there were also splashes of bright colour through red and orange hues as well as shades of purple and mauve.

Trails, tutu-like touches and feathers were reminiscent of Portman's Oscar winner, "Black Swan."

However, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lawrence were both named fashion misses in their Calvin Klein dresses.

Style guru Michael O'Connor summarised the styles. He said: "Some of the major themes that we saw today were really I think a retro kind of feel. We saw that with a lot of shoulder pads, we saw that with a lot of the feathers."
