Holly Jamestone - Gold

Description
With red and white stripes overshadowing Our blue
Proud and bold, our prism of courage
We masked our fear with clasped palms
Warmly intertwined hearts side by side
Hope shoulder to shoulder
One season bled into another as watercolors do on canvas
With changes at first subtle
and then later spectacular
Snow crystals were more diamond-like than we had remembered
As holiday lights stole our hearts
With warm winks of reassurance
We gladly held our loved ones much tighter than ever
Their candy canes far more gleaming
Than we could ever remember
We formed a circle around our world and stoically guarded our universe
Proudly bowing our heads, then lifting
Our gaze to the omnipresent sun
Bells' peals and welcome caroling began and lifted our hearts
Serenading the world
In innumerable languages
Songs continued till leaves returned, flowers danced
While birds gently chorused and our minds were then calmed
As the anniversary of our blue was now GOLD
[9/11 anniversary]
