Now discomfort
Must be dust-binned

Returns the image
Of the rubber-tiled
Basketball court
Punch and blood
Torn striped tie
School badge scratch
Hiccupy cry

You rub the stitches
Beneath your chin
Once forgotten
But now
At once when you grin
The familiar bite


How did it start?
Who hit first?
Was it for a ball?
A lunch banana?
Basketball team?
Girl?


Stare hard at the scrap
He had curly hair
And yet
Here’s the bald photo
The boy
Who made you
Nose bleed
Hairless in miniature
With baby
And lead-free toy


Now
This message
Flickering of growing old
Irritates
Funnily
Makes you bold
