Highlights from the Emmys

"Glee" actress Jane Lynch was quick on her toes as host of the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards, poking fun at the customary introductions that usually accompany award shows.

"As I look out at the vaguely familiar faces of so many people I'm of nodding acquaintance with. Steve Carell, we've been nodding at each other for years now, hello. Sofia, new friend, new nod. Mr. Scorsese, I do not believe we have nodded at each just yet. There you go."
After a notoriously acerbic performance as the host of the last Goldens, British comic Ricky Gervais delivered a pre-recorded message free of controversy - thanks to some careful editing.

"And the Emmy bosses have warned me if I say anything rude they will edit it out and you won't know the difference. What a bunch of cowardly countrymen like Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan. We're proud of you. I've won of few Emmys myself, I've lost a few too. I was up for five last year and I lost them all to other shows that were, In my opinion were absolute 'Schindler's List' but then went on to do TV."
Hollywood star Charlie Sheen made a guest appearance to present the nominees for Outstanding Lead Actor in a comedy series.
Sheen, who had gone on several public rants since being fired from his sitcom "Two and a Half Men" took the opportunity to deliver a message to his former cast and crew mates.

"Before I present outstanding lead actor in a comedy series, my old category, I want to take a moment to get something off my chest and say a few words to everybody here from 'Two and a half Men'. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you nothing but the best for this upcoming season."
One of the biggest winners on the night was comedy show "Modern Family" with five Emmys.
Other notable wins on the night included acting accolades for the co-stars of the HBO miniseries "Mildred Pierce", Kate Winslet and Guy Pierce.
But it was British period drama "Downton Abbey" that was the biggest miniseries winner, with a total of six Emmys.
And "Mad Men" made Emmy history, winning Best Drama Series for the fourth year in a row.
