High-tech robo-brickie completes first outdoor build

A high-tech robo-brickie has completed its first outdoor build.

Hadrian X is described as the world’s most advanced construction robot and is designed to lay bricks at speeds of up to 500 blocks an hour.

Australian company FBR say the system is capable of building structural, load-bearing walls of a brick or block house in as little as a day.

The system sees a large truck park up and extend a 32-metre telescoping boom capable of handling blocks up to 600mm x 400mm x 300mm.

A special construction adhesive is used in place of mortar, allowing for continuous building and improving the strength of the walls.

It can complete both external and internal walls of a standard double brick house over three storeys.

Hadrian X only needs a two-person crew using tablets or mobile devices, with one operating the Hadrian X system and the other overseeing the telehandler.

FBR say the innovation is "designed to build structures safer, faster, cheaper and more accurately, with waste virtually eliminated compared to traditional manual methods."
