High Spirits for A Dying Art

Hiding in the hustle and bustle of this year's recently completed Hungry Ghost Festival is a sad tale of a dying art.

Chinese opera troupes in Malaysia are now all but extinct, because the young lack the inclination to learn the art and the senior performers sealed up their chests of props during the two years of the pandemic.

But one temple in mainland Penang has stubbornly striven to keep the tradition alive.
