Description

A comma which was newly hatched
had surreptitiously been matched
by the creator before birth
for its exciting life on earth
to what is called apostrophe
which, used to living in a tree
was not too glad of the addition
and thus he greeted with derision
the baby and assigned a space
for it down on the line, in case
it would eventually strive
to float on top, proud and alive
and steal the rightful noble spot.

That was the trouble with a tot
who had no sense but aspirations
to be the king of all dictations.
The questionmark was on his side
so were the others, as a guide
the exclamation symbol stated
that commata are overrated
and they would see to it for sure
that writing would remain the pure
and educated social science
and that they'd form a proud alliance
to stick to their own status quo
just think, no comma is a pro.

Yet, little comma watched the show
it had been born, full in the know
and when apostrophe had erred
the comma flew, just like a bird
up to the letters' lofty top
and shouted 'this has got to stop! '
You see, the comma had the smarts
and saw how all the other farts
had overlooked each single failing
and then supported happy sailing.

It pained the comma to observe
and damaged its small optic nerve
whenever someone spelled out its
as it's, it gave to him the shits.

So, in the end, he got his way
and for its errors had to pay
apostrophe who was demoted
the punctuators all had voted
to put him down below the line
a place where sun and moon don't shine.
