Herbert Nehrlich - Sharing Sorrow

How easy just to lay
disturbing matter of your life
onto this giant podium,
in hopes that others might
by reason of sheer numbers,
take a look and shed a tear,
perhaps you hit a moment
in their lives where silence rules,
when clutter's at its lowest point
and altruistic deeds emerge
in thoughts and then in words.
How dare we, how can we hope
to burden others with our sorrow then?
Do they not have to bear their own,
their man-made crosses, to the Mount?
It must be weakness in the bones,
a lack of stamina, perhaps stiff upper lip,
yet it is left to us, to humans known as men
to stand with courage and to never leave the ship.
