Herbert Nehrlich - Circumcision

You are born and you scream
as they wrap you in wool
all passé is the dream
and you feel like the fool

who has landed in error
in a land of bright lights
and the promise of terror
of traditional rites.

Now the kindly physician
with a smile on his face
carries out the decision
that is pride of this race.

Sharpened blade now descending
and a scream can be heard
starts a pain, neverending
and the doc says the word.

It's the great circumcision
it will keep little hands
off the penis, and vision
with its heavy demands
on the zinc for its tissue
will prevent masturbation
which itself is an issue
for adult consternation.

There was no anesthetic
and the bleeding profuse
and without an emetic
you throw up on his shoes.

As the doc takes the money
for a job done so well
your own father says 'honey',
you continue to yell.

They've betrayed you, my buddy
it was God who designed
you with care, and this fuddy
with his murderous mind

had the license to maim
when you're helpless my lad,
life will not be the same
and it's all very sad.

Now the Muslims all do it
so do Jews and some others
how do doctors go through it,
closely watched by the mothers?

As I sit here composing
I look down to my crotch
let me tell you in closing
that I'm having a scotch,

all in honour of being
spared the cruelest of cuts
and whenever I'm peeing
I see foreskin and nuts.
