Herbert Nehrlich 2 - Truth Killed

And, handed down through generations
a legend told to girls and boys,
to men in learned occupations
and manufacturers of toys.

Truth, a fine dame went through each city,
her aim was just to find a mate,
no one came forth, no one took pity,
until the day the Moon was late.

May I be bold (a fiery look)
and introduce myself to you,
the name is Jeddediah Crook
my heart is free, how do you do?

Soon the two were seen together
hand in hand and hip to hip,
never mind inclement weather
when they boarded the big ship.

Truth was happy as she rested
in the cabin, on her bed,
Crook who had so much invested
saw his chance and killed her dead.

When it landed disembarking
many in their promised land
someone heard a man remarking
is this blood there, on your hand?

Truth was trusting and she perished
by the sword of Master Crook
all the things she loved and cherished
can be found in any book.

But in life, since Truth expired
liars came and reproduced
tending to be well attired
though their pride was self-induced.

Now the world has lost forever
innocence and men of worth
and it started when a clever
crook was put upon this earth.
