Herbert Nehrlich 2 - In The Forest

The bush, its autumn twigs quite bare
stood, as a sentry in the silent woods.
Two lovers in the meadow's thoroughfare
as grass and undergrowth wear winter's hoods,
they say good bye and for the briefest moment kissed
she watched him go and he turned only once
then they were sat upon by an October mist
which rules the forests in the ancient land of Huns.
I wish that when the bush grows once again so green
and when the forest comes alive with innate sounds
when morning mists have left the native wintergreen
that on these paths where life renews its common grounds
two lovers find themselves inside a happy spring
where warmth and butterflies will welcome any guest
where pretty robins sit together while they sing
and where all lovers watch the sun set in the west.
