Herbert Nehrlich 2 - Excitement

It was
well, one of those
you know,
queer situations
where you can only
try to improvise,
use smoke
and mirrors
play loud music
for its douse effect,
they'd all been
introduced
by 'her',
the kindly matron
as well brought up
young people,
high mark students
who applied themselves
and would become
the country's future absolute.
Which was alright
because the country
surely was in dire need.

He crossed the floor
like all the other lads
and bowed
to mum and pop
and her,
of course.

It was the key
to let her know
(and them) ,
she would accompany
and dance
what would
most certainly be
Johann's
Blue Danube.

You'd have to be
a stout young man
to whirl
at speed,
especially
to
(twas expected)
the far left.

A thousand pairs
of earnest eyes
were now on full alert.
His had been drawn
as if by some
great universal force
into the small
but prominent
twice folded piece
of golden lace,
he'd heard it labelled,
now he stared
into the depth of
a potential
vertigo.

He later told her
how he could
not understand
that
what had been
a glitch to him,
and had divided them
through physics,
just between the two,
she had not
or been too scared to note
paid any mind.
