Help desks: Real help or plain self-interest?

As freshers rush to get hold of their coveted seat on the first day of college admissions, they'll see student volunteers who compete to help and guide them during the process. In early July 2017, the West Bengal government banned college help desks for significant reasons. Why? Is service the only motive of these volunteers, who belong to different student parties?
