This short fantasy story follows a young man named John who goes ice fishing in a frozen, isolated landscape.

The fireplace and bed lift into the sky, carrying John across the land while the fish uses her magic to melt the endless winter below, turning the frozen world into a vast green forest and valley.

The story is based on the classic Russian folktale “By the Pike’s Wish”, where magical forces reward unexpected kindness with extraordinary consequences.
