A lizard's tongue of lightning
Forks across the horizon.
Somewhere beyond our view
Dories are riding out a storm.
What is going on out there?
The beach is firm, solid.
Curlers roll in without a clue.
Out on the sea, who knows—
Terror, or just another choppy day?
Pick-up trucks with trailers
Line the water's edge,
Wives listen on their scanners,
Stare pensively toward the sea—
Smoke and wait. Smoke and wait.
