Handheld iris scanner could change suspect identification
4 Views • Oct 31, 2013
Description
A revolutionary new handheld iris scanner may change the way police work is conducted.
A company called AOptix last month began showing off a new tetherless device able to conduct military-grade biometric scanning. The user, potentially police or border security, hold the scanner, called Stratus, a little less than a foot away from the eyes of the subject and can in a matter of seconds store or pull up ID information.
The new device, which is being scouted by security agencies around the country, also includes some other very useful features including a fingerprint scanner and facial recognition - all helpful tools contributing to nearly instant recognition technology.
The Stratus works by taking photographs of the iris with the help of a bright infrared light and analyzing specific patterns that are as unique as a fingerprint. The patterns are compared with a database.
